Watan Card
Punjab is the most prosperous STATE of Pakistan and experiencing rapid growth in human population and vehicular population. The purpose of IDAP is to develop seamless, efficient and high speed integrated transport.
In response to the flood crisis, the Government of Pakistan in collaboration with the Provincial Governments set up the Citizens’ Damage Compensation Program to support affected households with cash in their recovery efforts in all four provinces Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The Council of Common Interest (a constitutional body headed by the Prime Minister, and including the Chief Ministers of all Provinces) made an immediate one-off payment of PKR 20,000 to the affected families. The Programme was mutually financed by the Federal and Provincial governments under the name of “Watan Card” to support the flood affected families, and provide some relief to the affected people. In Phase I, a total of 609,788 beneficiaries received Watan Card cash grant of Rs. 20,000 each. In Phase II, as many as 339 Watan cards were issued in Punjab with disbursement of Rs13.535 billion. In Sindh, the number of Watan Cards so far issued is 303,831 with a disbursed amount of Rs11.147 billion. In Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, the number of Watan Cards issued stood at 277,825 with disbursed amount of Rs11.008 billion. Whereas in Balochistan, 13,072 cards were processed with disbursement of Rs463 million cash to the affectees.In Azad Kashmir 9,364 Watan cards were issued disbursing Rs356 million while NADRA sites were set up in Hattian, Haveli, Mirpur, Neelum and Rawalakot.In Gilgit-Baltistan 4,030 cards were issued disbursing Rs148 million and three sites were established in Gilgit, Hunza and Skardu.In short approximately, 948,878 flood victims disbursed Rs36.656billion via Watan Cards in Phase II. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Punjab aided the issuance and distribution of Watan Cards to help the food victims to cover basic consumption and to recapitalize assets, repay loans, recover their livelihoods and repair housing.
